Belgium is usually known for it’s dry and welcoming climate, but it seems that rain has decided to follow kart competitions this year. We have met people who say they have never in their lives used wet tyres at Mariembourg… The forecasts are still uncertain but we can logically expect an improvement for tomorrow when the rain will not be as continuous and there will possibly be dry finals on Sunday.
Otherwise we were able to gather information between the showers – some teams have up to 5cm of water in their awnings. Daems Racing is running the two Bailly brothers in WSK, Sebastien in KF2 and Benjamin in KZ2. The latter took over the spot left vacant by Enzo Zefirini. Glenn Keyeart will move to Intrepid at the end of the year, as he is a very fast driver who has often had bad luck. So if he can ward it off by going to another team, why not? Another driver changing mount is Matteo Vigano, now on a Zanardi with the support of Dino Chiesa.
The drivers have spent the day in free practice to relax their chassis and find some grip. As an aside, KF2 have been three to four tenths faster than the more powerful KZ2. Could it be that the Bridgestone wet tyre is better than the Vega?
